Dynamic interactive characteristics between icicle growth and corona discharge on HVDC outdoor insulators during icing accretion

In order to improve the stability and reliability of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines in cold regions, this article investigated corona discharges icicle growth characteristics on outdoor insulators under DC voltages. The experiments were conducted at CIGELE laboratory University Quebec. simulation model theoretical established. dynamic process interactive between different HVDC voltages obtained. results showed that discharge activity was strong cooling effect ionic air weak negative voltage, resulting a large number bubbles inside icicle. More ions produced which enhanced polarisation water droplets, leading greater density ice beads outside icicles. addition, longest icicles each insulator humidity could bridge shed gap. accumulated charge leakage higher as well top lasted longer. Therefore, more significantly inhibited icicle, slower rate
